Ideathony (elementary, secondary school)
Young people's ideas have the power to change the world
For whom?
- for students of the second level of primary schools
- for secondary school and vocational school students
We organize Ideathons both for individual classes and as part of project days directly at schools.
We also organize them ourselves or with partner institutions (e.g. cities, municipalities, interest or educational organizations).
Ideathon is one-day event, during which students work for 4-6 hours in groups to solve a specific practical problem. Teams work under the guidance of mentors. This is not about playing business – it is about solving real challenges from surrounding schools, towns, municipalities or companies from the Ústí nad Labem Region. Whether it's about improving the school environment, supporting community life, ecology or using technology, each team has the chance to come up with their own creative solution.
The goal is to encourage collaboration, logical thinking, and the ability to present one's own solutions. Ideathon is a great, practical competition format for developing entrepreneurship and relationships in the classroom.
Participants have available mentors, time, space, and most importantly the freedom to think differently. At the end ideathon then yours present ideas to a jury composed directly of the clients – people who truly understand the challenge and are interested in moving it forward. The idea, approach, teamwork and courage to make a difference are evaluated.
In the past two years we have organized and co-organized ideathony with the organization Junior Achievement (JA Czech), the city of Česká Kamenice and the Ústí nad Labem Region; in the school year 2025/26 it is we are preparing for JE Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem and other schools within the project days.
How does the ideathon day go?
The whole day is structured so that participants experience the entire process of finding a solution - from the first understanding of the problem to the final presentation in front of a jury. They work in teams, with an emphasis on cooperation, creativity and the courage to come up with their own idea.
1. Introduction and challenge statement: The day begins with a joint presentation of the topic assigned by the school, city or company. Participants are divided into teams and receive basic information about the challenge.
2. Working in teams: Teams work at their own pace, assisted by an experienced moderator and mentors from practice. They use tools such as brainstorming, empathy maps, or Lean Canvas (in a simple form).
3. Mentoring and consulting: During the day, participants have the opportunity to discuss their ideas with experts who support them in thinking through and fine-tuning solutions.
4. Preparing the presentation: Each team will prepare a short presentation at the end - explaining what they came up with, why they think it works, and how it could be put into practice.
5. Presentation before the jury: The teams will present their ideas to a panel of experts, consisting of representatives from the client and other experts. Not only the idea, but also courage, teamwork and originality will be assessed.
6. Feedback and appreciation: All participants receive personal feedback. The most interesting ideas can be further developed - perhaps within other ICUK programs or directly with the client.
