UJEP/ČVUT – VALEO
unmanned car control research project
In 2017, ICUK negotiated and launched a research project for the global supplier of autonomous control systems for the company Valeo and the Faculty of Socio-Economics UJEP in Ústí nad Labem. The project consisted in the processing and annotation of video recordings taken from vehicles and in the subsequent validation of the annotation used for the development of autonomous (unmanned) car control. High school and university students participated in the project for the most part. The project was extended several times due to the quality of the work performed by the company. In January 2020, it was taken over by the Faculty of Transport of the Czech Technical University in Děčín, which has long been dedicated to research and education in the field of sustainable mobility.

NEW JOBS
-
THE WAY TO SUCCESS WITH ICUK
- in the initiation phase of the project, securing entry capacities and continuous support of the recruitment campaign (recruitment of up to 150 students!)
- thanks to the reliability and quality of the work performed, the company Valeo gradually entrusts the team with evaluating the quality of the work of other centers.
- the project brought several tens of jobs to the region annually, mainly for students, and represented the highest commercial order for FSE UJEP in the order of tens of millions per year.
- the project opened the topic of autonomous mobility in the region and was at the origin of other projects for its possible research and development in Ústí nad Labem (feasibility studies for test polygons, virtual test polygon, 5G for 5 cities...).
“The sharing of knowledge and skills and the feedback between key workers has led us to a quality that no other annotation center has had. This gave us a significant competitive advantage leading to maintaining our position and acquiring new projects. ICUK helped us the most in the initial phase of the rapid start-up of the project and subsequently also provided important support in recruiting personnel capacities."
Petr Achs, UJEP-Valeo project manager, area of development of autonomous control systems
