The successful "ROBUL" dazzled at Maker Faire Prague 2024

This weekend May 11 and 12 it was already the seventh year Maker Faire Prague, a festival for do-it-yourselfers, technology enthusiasts and creators. As part of its activities aimed at supporting creativity, the Innovation Center of the Ústí Region (ICUK) presented the FIRST Robotics Competition in the USA and the robot that participated in it.

A second team from the Czech Republic also participated in the Maker Faire Prague festival, which also demonstrated its robot at the FIRST competition. Visitors could thus see in practice what a robot could look like, which is created according to the specifications given by the organizer of the FIRST competition. Teams will be briefed on basic elements, functions and parameters, and the rest is up to their skill, knowledge and creativity. The robots at the competition performed the same tasks and overcame the same obstacles, yet they are different. The goal of the competition is to meet the requirements and at the same time provide freedom in the construction of the competition robot.

The location of both stands with robots next to each other attracted a lot of attention. Inquisitive smaller children and primary and secondary school students they tried catch rings, which the robot had to place on pre-given targets at the competition, the more skilled tried it themselves i handling the robot. The festival also impressed the chairman of the Czech Pirate Party and Minister for Regional Development Ivan Bartoš, who likes to support young technological creators and granted the Robul project his patronage. He also brought his son to the event, who was immediately captivated by our robot.

Interest in modern technology and robotics is getting bigger and bigger. This is evidenced by the great interest in ICUK's presentations on stage as part of the discussion panel on the topic of robotics. The two-day festival attracted almost 12,000 visitors and more than 900 makers (exhibitors) gathered here.

Fostering creativity as one of the skills of entrepreneurship and popularization of robotics belongs to the main themes of the RUR project – University Region, University of the Region, in which ICUK participates as a project partner.
