From Chomutov to operating rooms – how JIMALU is building the global expansion of its MEDICAL division
History and formation of the division
Company story JIMALU started in 2006 in Chomutov. The experience that the company has gained over many years in designing and manufacturing machines and equipment has proven to be an ideal opportunity to enter the production of precision medical components. The emerging JIMALU MEDICAL division focused on the production of miniature rings made of radiopaque precious metals (e.g. platinum, gold). These rings (Medical Marker Bands) are integrated into catheters, stents and other interventional instruments, where they help doctors precisely locate and visualize instruments during medical procedures using imaging methods (X-ray, fluoroscopy, etc.), thereby shortening the time of the procedure and contributing to increased patient safety.
Transformation and financial challenges
Behind every company's growth comes a moment when it is no longer enough to go "intuitively". For JIMALU, this moment came precisely when it obtained the necessary certification for the production of medical components and built a complete production. It was then that it became clear that it would not be possible without systematic financial management.
Platinn Program: Professional financial management as the basis for expansion
Entering the world of medical devices requires not only technological excellence, but also the ability to arrange demanding financing and large-scale investments. The company is currently facing another major milestone – construction of a new production hall, which will provide the necessary background for growing production.
The program helped with this very purpose. ICUK Platinn and financial specialist Miloš Nekola, who brought almost 30 years of experience in the banking sector to the collaboration. Under his leadership, JIMALU mastered the process of converting an expansion plan into a financeable and credibly defensible structure. The team learned to work with complex financial models, map OPEX/CAPEX needs, and manage cash flow so that the construction of the hall and the purchase of technology were in line with the long-term stability of the company. This professionalization of data discipline and the standard of supporting documents was key to successful negotiations with banks and other institutions.
The courage to change direction and handle its consequences
Entering the healthcare segment is not easy. It is not just about certification and production, but above all about the time it takes to gain customer trust. Before a company can start producing large volumes of a given product, it must go through several rounds of verification – from the first samples through validation series to thousands of deliveries. The whole process takes months and requires stable financing. Today, the company stands on the border of two worlds: it is an experienced manufacturer of machinery and equipment and, at the same time, is building a new, technologically demanding division in the healthcare segment.
Suppliers, production and international activities
JIMALU MEDICAL operates in a challenging healthcare market and, if it wants to succeed, it must actively develop business contacts outside Europe — participation in major healthcare fairs is an important channel for the company to acquire new customers and build business partnerships. "„We currently deliver in Europe outside the Czech Republic, for example to Germany and Ireland, and we are also gradually expanding to the USA, where local sales representatives handle the business. In the long term, we place emphasis on searching for potential suppliers and customers in the Czech Republic.“ adds Tomáš Cimbálník from the Marketing Department.
