A new OpenLab is being created based on DigiLab's experiences

We are the pilot project of the shared digital workshop DigiLab thanks to the cooperation ICUK, University of JE Purkyně (UJEP) and the Ústí nad Labem Region We have successfully completed it and are now following it up with something even bigger. OpenLab is a new pilot validation that innovates teaching about robotics and automation. In addition to the electronics, 3D printing and polytechnic skills that you may have known from DigiLab, we are adding equipment for practical robotics, mechatronics and embedded systems - technologies that more and more companies and students are encountering today.

Do you have an idea that you want to bring to life? A prototype, a mockup, or just want to try out what it's like to work with a 3D printer or VR glasses? That's exactly why OpenLab is here.

We start in September 2026 at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FSI) UJEP – and next year we plan to expand OpenLab to include environmental topics.

What you will find in OpenLab

Electronic laboratory

Connect circuits, solder even small SMD components on the new hot air soldering station, program robots on Arduino and Raspberry Pi or get involved in your own IoT project. You can also program and build an industrial robot or get hands-on with mechatronics and engineering programming on the new automation kit.

3D and VR Workshop

You scan a real object with a new handheld 3D scanner, model it, print it on one of the two new CoreXY 3D printers (also thanks to the new filament dryer in better quality) - and finally you can view your creation directly in virtual reality. Working with filaments, resin printing and a plotter.

Polytechnic workshop

Workshop tables, tools, CNC milling machine and laser station. Newly also a microcomputer training system where you can learn to program microcontrollers and industrial interfaces. A place where an idea ceases to be just an idea.

OpenLab Reservations

The use of OpenLab and its devices is free – just register in advance for a specific date and time. We distinguish between reservations for individuals and groups (a group for us is 4 or more people 🙂). The basic unit is one 120 minute block.

Group booking

(i.e. classes, groups, teams up to 24 people) – intended for 2nd grade elementary school students and high school and university students

FRIDAY from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m.,
at another time after telephone agreement with the responsible person

Reservations by individuals

(i.e. 1-3 people)

WEDNESDAYS from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM
